Music Marathon was our first student event of the new DVMTA year and it was a huge success! Over 300 students of DVMTA teachers performed during the all-day recitals. This year's venues included Superstition Springs Mall, Towerpoint Resort, Brookdale-Park Regency, Generations at Agritopia, Arizona Piano, and Legacy Retirement Residence. What a wonderful opportunity for students to perform in the community and to brighten the day for so many. Thank you to Dana Rodgers, Penny Carpenter and Tammy Shorts for making the day so memorable!
DVMTA honors Devoted Performers who have a special commitment to DVMTA events, and who participate in at least 4 events for 3 out of 5 years. They are honored at Awards Plus with a trophy and cash prize. Also honored are Senior Scholarship Recipients. These are high school seniors who have spent many years participating in DVMTA events, and who have been involved musically in school and in the community. This year 9 Devoted Performers were awarded, and there was 1 Senior Scholarship recipient. Congratulations to them and to their teachers for their dedication! The awards ceremony was held at Legacy Retirement Residence in Mesa. Thank you to Carolyn Eldredge and Keisha Weight for organizing this inspiring evening!

Achievement Day this year was held at the newly renovated MCC Music Building, and was a great success! We had 175 students participate in evaluations by our DVMTA teachers, in the areas of performance, technique, theory, sight reading, ear training, duets, composers and composition. Students brought their honed skills and their enthusiastic attitudes as they were tested and given constructive critique. We love ending the year on this high note, with so much being achieved by students and teachers alike. There's a lot to do, so thank you to all teachers who helped, and to the committee, Buffie Meeker, Lori Weidemann and Lisa Wallace.
Students auditioned for Awards in Excellence on April 13, 2019 at Arizona Piano where each student performed two memorized pieces from the DVMTA Repertoire List and were judged. Those who were selected winners performed at the Winners' Recital, held at the same location on April 20, 2019. We were amazed at the level of achievement from these young pianists! Congratulations to all who auditioned, and to those who were selected winners and to those given honorable mention. Thank you to their teachers for preparing them so well, and to the Awards in Excellence Committee: Lorri McHardy, Fei, Xu and Yali Luo, with help from Penny Carpenter, Lori Weidemann and Hong Zhu.
