DVMTA students were busy composing and recording their original compositions for this year's Festival, held November 13th and 14th at Southeast Valley Bible Church. Three recitals were held over two days to showcase 72 student compositions. Each student submitted their composition with a recording in October, and each was evaluated by Penni Scott. Students received wonderful remarks and suggestions from Ms. Scott, and we are grateful for the time she spent helping these young composers. Many thanks to Claire Westlake, the Original Composition Chair, along with committee members Debbie Engelsman and Jessica Heidt. Thanks also to all the DVMTA teachers who helped their students prepare their compositions.

Along with the cooler temperatures comes the reminder that we are nearing the end of the year. Holidays and concerts are right around the corner, and with them come the anticipation of sharing wonderful moments with family and friends! I can’t help but reflect on so many things I’m grateful for DVMTA bringing into my life. I’m thankful for the friendships and camaraderie I’ve experienced as I’ve served alongside many of you. I’m grateful for our Board members who faithfully work behind the scenes to ensure our events run smoothly and efficiently. I am proud of new members who are taking advantage of all our organization has to offer by signing students up for events and learning together with us. I’m grateful that my students have had opportunities to perform, serve the community, compose, compete, collaborate, and be evaluated on goals they have achieved. This is why our organization was created – to give students performance opportunities and teachers learning opportunities – and I believe we successfully do both. And, I’m thankful YOU are on this journey with us! If there is any way we can help you get the most out of DVMTA, let us know.

The read through was held on October 29th at The Music Store, and members had the opportunity to preview this year's exciting music. Cavalcade's theme will be "Music at the Movies," where students and teachers will perform soundtracks and songs from all their favorite motion pictures. It will be a fun and memorable event. Students love Cavalcade, and we cannot wait for them to learn and perform the music that has been selected. See you at the movies!
